Kingussie High School Learning Resource Centre

Library Links

 The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is open from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each school day. This includes intervals and lunchtimes from 12:20 – 1:45.

Books

 The LRC contains over 4000 fiction, non-fiction and reference books to support the curriculum and recreational reading.

                                                Audio Tapes/CDs

A selection of fiction and non-fiction tapes/CDs is available on the carousel next to Mrs. Topping’s desk.

                                                Computers

The LRC ICT suite has 20 networked computers with DVD drives and internet access. These are available for word processing, accessing databases, spreadsheets, the internet and multimedia CDs.   A scanner, one inkjet and two laser printers  are also available for pupil and staff use.  Staff and pupil computer access is available during class, lunchtime and after school.  Computers should always be booked in advance for class use.

                                                Equipment

TV/VCR double video recorder, DVD/Video recorder, overhead projector, 2 screens, cassette player/recorder, digital projector and display boards.

                                                Careers Library

The Careers Library contains prospectuses, career information, training opportunities, entry requirements, gap year, university and career videos, software i.e. Kudos, Careerscape multimedia and access to  career/university websites.

The school Careers Officer visits most Tuesdays. For an appointment please fill in a ‘Contacting Careers Scotland’ form available in the LRC.  Meetings take place in the interview room.

                                       Learning and Thinking Skills

Mrs. Nield (Learning Support), along with the librarian, teach an 8 week Learning and Thinking Skills course for all S1 pupils as part of PSE.

                                       Information and Publicity File

The ‘Information File’ is a collection of printed materials, mostly newspaper articles on a list of topics mainly used in discursive essays. It is kept as up to date as possible.

The ‘Publicity File’ is a collection of newspaper articles that feature the school, pupils or staff members of KHS.

If you find a newspaper article or leaflet which would be useful for either file please give it to Mrs. Topping.
